Day 20

Day 20

The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. (2 Timothy 4:18)

What kind of safety are you after? What will it take to make you feel safe? The apostle Paul was confident that the Lord will rescue him from ‘every evil deed’ and ‘bring me safely’ into His heavenly kingdom. Does this mean no suffering? Is this what Paul means in the verse above? Does ‘rescue’ and ‘safely’ mean no troubles at all? Does it mean that Christians will never be hurt or injured or even killed? Not at all. In 2 Corinthians chapter 11 Paul describes his ‘safe’ trip to heaven as anything but safe! He says he was imprisoned, had countless beatings – often near to death – he was beaten with thirty nine lashes five times, beaten with rods three times, stoned, shipwrecked, adrift at sea, often been in constant danger from rivers, robbers, his own people, betrayals, and gone hungry and thirsty without food and exposed to cold. Is this what it looks like to be ‘brought safely’ into His heavenly kingdom? And bear in mind that after Paul wrote this verse he was martyred during the reign of the Emperor Nero! Paul entered His heavenly kingdom by being killed! Where’s the ‘safely’ into His heavenly kingdom? What Paul means is that through it all, through all the sufferings and troubles we are still totally and completely safe. No matter how bad it feels, no matter how much we are suffering, no matter how scared we are, the fact is that we are completely safe. The Lord will rescue us from every evil deed. Evil deeds will never stop us entering His heavenly kingdom. True, evil deeds can destroy our bodies. But Jesus said, “Don’t fear those who can only kill the body.” Why? Because even being killed will not stop us from being brought safely into His heavenly kingdom. Stop being afraid of your fears. As a Christian, you are safe. Even the worst suffering will not endanger your entry into his heavenly kingdom. Why is this true? Because the Lord’s glory is at stake. It is to His glory that we will be rescued from every evil deed and brought safely into His heavenly kingdom. Imagine for a moment if one of God’s children didn’t make it into His heavenly kingdom. Will we be able to praise Him and give Him the glory for all eternity knowing full well that the Father lost one of His children? God is not a 99% brilliant Father. He is a Perfect Father. Not one of His little ones will be lost. Not one. He will rescue you from every evil deed and bring you safely into His heavenly kingdom. PRAY asking God to show you that you are totally safe. His reputation depends on it. Ask Him to help you not to worry about suffering and troubles. They can’t touch you.
